Ryan Huttar
Ryan Huttar is an experienced criminal defense attorney devoted to championing the rights of criminal defendants. For years, he has served clients in courtrooms all over Northern and Central Virginia as a fierce litigator and trial advocate. Ryan prides himself on building and executing effective strategies designed to achieve the best possible results.
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND
After graduating from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, Ryan worked in mergers and acquisitions in New York City as a corporate financial analyst for several years. During his tenure, he helped negotiate the purchase and sale of many large companies – some with enterprise values over a billion dollars. Among many responsibilities, Ryan developed complex financial models for highly sophisticated corporate clients.
Ryan left finance to attend Georgetown University, where he earned his Juris Doctor. After graduation, he immediately started as a trial advocate in general practice. Throughout his career, Ryan has tried hundreds of cases — and litigated over a thousand — across an extensive variety of legal disciplines.
With respect to his criminal practice, Ryan has litigated everything from reckless driving and DUI to aggravated sexual assault and attempted murder in front of judges and juries all over Northern and Central Virginia. Directly before joining Price Benowitz, Ryan served as an assistant public defender in Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties. While there, he fought for his clients against seasoned prosecutors to achieve excellent results.
Outside of his legal practice, Ryan enjoys time with his wife, Sofia, son, Phineas, and their menagerie of greyhounds and cats. He and his wife spend most weekends cheering on their son at lacrosse. Ryan also plays drums in a local band, Eclectic Company, with frequent gigs all over the region.
PHILOSOPHY & APPROACH
Ryan’s approach centers on the client. From an initial consultation to the end of representation, he listens to his clients and strives to understand their circumstances and perspectives. Clients often make difficult decisions which have a profound impact on their life. To aid them, Ryan works tirelessly to create as many options as possible by pouring over evidence, arguing motions, building cases, and negotiating with prosecutors.
However, simply providing clients options is not enough. A good attorney uses his or her legal knowledge, courtroom experience, and problem-solving ability to advise them about the risks and probable results of each option. By doing so, Ryan empowers each client to pursue the best strategy to achieve his or her individual goals.
